TWL-CPU-X6

This retail prototype DSi has an X6 motherboard and an X4 battery board. The white parts of the shell are slightly different from the released color, and there is no printing on the shell. The sides of the shell have slight notches where there used to be wires, but these have since been removed.

- The X6 is running the v2235-7985 factory (prototype) firmware. When a DSi first comes off of the assembly line, it has the factory firmware installed to allow it to boot factory test cartridges. The firmware has no menu and only autoboots inserted cartridges. If no cartridge is found then there will just be a white screen. There is a prototype MachineSettings also included, though it is inaccessible.

Parts of this firmware have been found in brand new DSis, but this is the first time finding the complete firmware and having it installed.

Thanks Voodooween we get to share 3 new prototype DSis! All of these are retail protos running the v2235-7985 factory firmware, with a surprise firmware in the X4.

TWL-CPU-X4

This DSi is from inside the WRFU Tester, a piece of factory hardware used to test wireless communications. The X4 DSi has been slightly modified with a couple wires connecting to the power switch and LEDs. This is so the DSi can be turned on and off with an external switch in the WRFU hardware. While most prototypes have a glossy finish, this one does not.

- In the same order as the photos, the wires connect to the power button, A button, and the C90/C13 resistors. Connecting the resistor wires on a retail motherboard just resulted in the DSi turning off.

There was no deleted content in either of the prototypes, but the X6 strangely had multiple .CHK files on the root of the NAND, most likely created by a disk checking tool.
